Cultural Connections in Panama

 The Cultural Diversity

  Religion:

While we dive into the Religious Diversity in Panama, I would like to point out that community and/or the country are multiracial. That is due to the gate or passage allowing travel and tourism into the country. In the hyperlink above, the video shows that there are three prayer grounds down the road from each other. A church, a mosque, and synagogue all a mile from the person speaking in the video. The religions primary to Panama are:

  1. Christianity: Some 85% of Panamanians are Roman Catholic. Brought over with the Spanish in the 16th century, Catholicism has thrived since its introduction and can be seen today in the country’s churches, traditions, and religious festivals.
  2. Protestant:  Evangelical Protestants at 25%. "The Protestant religion is a member or follower of any of the Western Christian churches that follow the practices of the Reformation, including the Baptist, Presbyterian, and Lutheran churches.
  3. Jehovah's Witnesses: Jehovah’s Witnesses at 1.4%. A branch of Christianity where they "deny many traditional Christian doctrines and refuse military service and blood transfusion on religious grounds."
  4. Baha'i Faith: Baha’i Faith at 2%. In this religion, they emphasize on monotheism in believing that oneness of humankind and all religions while to seek world peace.

Dishes:

The traditional dish is influenced by the North American and Spanish. Tipping is at least 10% customary, and the drinking age is 18. There are many different foods in this culture. Here is a short video on Panamanian food in a restaurant of cuisine dishes.

Language:

In Panama, 93% use Spanish as their first dialect. English follows as the second language at 8%. Followed by French at 4% and Arabic in 1% language spoken. The people use slang like in English, learning the language in this video will help you know some words they use day to day.
